Update on Amity’s response to the China earthquake

Update on Amity’s response to the China earthquake

Up to 12:00pm, May 30, death toll: 68,858, missing: 18,618, relocated: 15 million. Victims: 45 million Yesterday, Amity headquarters received a very special donation from Marie Krusmann, a 12 year old girl from Germany who stays with her expatriate parents in Shanghai. Marie turns to 12 on May 19 and instead of gift, she asked her friends and relatives to give to donate to the earthquake. We are quite impressed that at the age of 12, Marie was already resisting the attempting of birthday gifts and ask for donations to the earthquake. Our appreciations go to Marie and all those who have supported the idea. Altogether, Marie and her friends/families had raised RMB 2,725 Yuan.

Global Ministries partner in China, the Amity Foundation, shares this update on the response to the earthquake in China

As of May 30, 2008:

  • Death toll: 68,858
  • Missing: 18,618
  • Relocated: 15 million
  • Total victims: 45 million

Yesterday, Amity headquarters received a very special donation from Marie Krusmann, a 12 year old girl from Germany who lives with her expatriate parents in Shanghai. Marie turns 12 years old on May 19 and instead of gift, she asked her friends and relatives to give donations for earthquake relief. We are quite impressed that at the age of 12, Marie was already resisting the temptation of birthday gifts and asking for donations to the earthquake response. Our gratitude goes to Marie and all those who have supported the us.  Altogether, Marie and her friends/families had raised RMB 2,725 Yuan.

After working on the ground since the very beginning of the earthquake, the Amity front line team and volunteers will return to Amity tomorrow. They will get back to their families, colleagues and friends. Taking a long anticipated hot shower and sleeping soundly.  We are proud to have a team who worked tirelessly with the victims, traveled bravely in the landslide during the aftershocks, and lived under tough conditions. Our hats are off to them.

Further actions will be mapped out based on the information brought back by the team.

Peace,
She Hongyu
