World Week for Peace in Palestine/Israel: June 4-10
World Week for Peace in Palestine/Israel: June 4-10
The World Council of Churches is inviting member churches and related organizations to join a week of advocacy and action for a just peace in Palestine and Israel. Those who share the hope of justice are invited to take peaceful actions, together, to create a common international public witness.
In 2008, Catholic, Anglican and Protestant church leaders from Ireland visited Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories just prior to the World Week for Peace and did a national TV show about what they saw during the week. Inspired by the visit, churches in Ireland (with help from World Week for Peace participants in Palestine and as far away as Australia) have produced a liturgy this year. It’s a participatory service with
- stories and photos of young Palestinians and Israelis
- a prayer from the Heads of Churches in Jerusalem
- prayers by a Jewish rabbi in Jerusalem and a Muslim carpenter in Gaza.
