Lectionary Selection: Matthew 10:24-39

Prayers for Namibia

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, acknowledging Your faithfulness over Namibia and the work of Your Church throughout our country. As Your Word in Matthew 10:24–39 reminds us, strengthen us to be faithful disciples, courageous, obedient, and steadfast, even when the path is difficult or uncertain.

Lord, we lift up all our local churches within the Namibia Synod. Guide our leaders, ministers, and congregations with wisdom, humility, and unity as we serve Your people. Empower us to remain faithful, not seeking comfort above obedience, but trusting fully in Your will and walking in Your truth.

We pray for our communities, especially those facing poverty, unemployment, sickness, substance abuse, and gender-based violence. Bring healing where there is brokenness, hope where there is despair, and provision where there is need. Strengthen families and restore dignity to those who feel forgotten.

Bless our work of empowering communities and women, nurturing youth, and promoting health and well-being in our communities. May these efforts reflect Your love in action.

Teach us to carry our cross daily and to be a bold witness of Your love, living for Your kingdom above all else.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Faith in Action: Nurturing Hope and Holistic Transformation in Namibia

Across Namibia, the Namibia Synod, a constituent church of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) continues to embody a holistic and responsive ministry within communities facing unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, and social vulnerability. In both urban and rural settings, congregations are actively engaging these realities through faith-driven action that restores dignity and nurtures hope.

Central to this work is the empowerment of women through business development and entrepreneurship training initiatives, equipping them with practical skills to generate income and support their families. Alongside this, some congregations have established community gardens, initiatives that not only improve food security but also foster unity, shared responsibility, and sustainable livelihoods. These initiatives, together with ongoing community upliftment efforts, have been enriched through partnership with Global Ministries.

Recognising the importance of holistic care, the Synod also launched the “Embrace Your Health” programme, promoting physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Rooted in faith, this initiative encourages healthy living, supports responsible lifestyle choices, and connects individuals to care and counselling within their communities, affirming that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.

In addition, congregations provide pastoral care, prayer support, and safe spaces for healing, including support groups addressing substance abuse and trauma. Even with limited resources, members faithfully serve through compassion and presence.

Through these integrated ministries and small acts of compassion, the Church bears witness to Christ’s love, transforming lives, strengthening communities, and walking alongside people in their journey toward healing, dignity, and hope.
