Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico
Seminario Evangelico de Puerto Rico
The Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico (SEPR) is a historic and interdenominational Protestant theological school located in San Juan. Founded on September 11, 1919, it emerged from a union of several theological institutes representing different Protestant traditions on the island. Its mission is to provide excellent graduate theological education—offering degrees such as the Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts in Religion, and the Doctor of Ministry (DMin)—with the goal of forming leaders (both clergy and lay) who can serve in Christian ministry throughout Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, the Americas, and beyond. The seminary seeks to nurture students in their personal, academic, social, and spiritual growth while equipping them to understand and respond to the changing needs of churches and communities. Its vision emphasizes contextual, transformative theological education rooted in faith and service. The SEPR is ecumenically sponsored by multiple Protestant denominations—including Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Disciples of Christ, and United Evangelical churches—and maintains an active role in mission and church leadership. According to its most recent catalog, the seminary continues to develop its programs, maintain a diverse faculty and student body, and emphasize administrative excellence. It is accredited by recognized bodies, ensuring that its academic programs meet rigorous standards and serve students well into the future.
