Pray with Sri Lanka, July 20, 2025

Lectionary Selection:  Luke 10: 38-42

Prayers for Sri Lanka

Dear God, who is responsible for all creation, we come in your presence and seek guidance at this time. God, we live in an environment where violence and suffering are all around. Our relationships and family circles are facing immense hardships and challenges. You call us to be persons of good character in such situations (Luke 10:38-42). Lord, we pray to you to use each of us as instruments to live with Christian qualities and to show the value of Jesus Christ amongst people who are weak and in vulnerable conditions and who question, “Who is there for us?” We pray to you that you will send your Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to accompany us when problems and challenges arise in carrying out work for those in our society. We pray that you will bless everyone who helps us from near and far in this work. Lord, help each of us to move forward as servants of Jesus Christ and to identify Christ in people who are suffering, those who have lost their loved ones, and their own lands.  We pray through Jesus, the Son of God and Comforter, to infuse each of us with an enthusiastic mind and energetic body to work for the betterment of humanity and a peaceful world.

In the Name of Our Saviour Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Mission Moment from Sri Lanka

The Church of the American Ceylon Mission has been involved in diverse work in local communities. We are committed to ensuring that women, children, youth, the elderly, the sick, and those in bondage are supported. Many young children are being helped in rural areas through our numerous preschools, where basic nutrition and activities are organized to promote their development through games, artwork, songs, and dance. The Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) in Jaffna, in its formation of young seminarians who have committed themselves to the priesthood, has been involved in a multi-faceted preparation process encompassing human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral aspects. In addition, several seminars and workshops continue to be organized with our church members, along with our sister ecumenical churches, and the youth to create awareness of gender and equality issues. While the Church is carrying out our spiritual work to the fullest, it is worth noting that social work within our communities is being addressed as a priority. We are sincerely grateful to organizations like Global Ministries, which have supported us through their various networks in conducting such work. While the Church of the American Ceylon Mission (CACM) has been doing various kinds of work in the society in which we live, it is clear to us that we must continue to grow and evolve in our commitment to address the many challenging issues faced both in a post-war society and globally.
