Pray with El Salvador Sunday, August 25, 2019
Lectionary Selection: Luke 13:10-17
Prayers for El Salvador:
We thank God for this woman hunched over from the Gospel of Luke, who impresses us with her strength to remain visible in spite of the bend in her back in religious and social spaces and at the same time invisible because of the reality of exclusion in her society and religion for 18 years.
We thank God for the Salvadoran women who have written a great part of the history of this country, many of them being invisible for the marks that violence has left and that still leaves on their bodies, and visible for their persistence in their faith, participation, and construction of peace.
We thank you for the 55 years of the walk of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, in whose celebration the women evangelized us again with their testimonies. Thank you for Silvia, Maria, Gloria, Juanita, Lidia, and Claudia.
We thank you for the life or death decisions, taken by your Church, in times of war and postwar. Thank you for women like Claudia Arévalo, who from 1984 to 1995, went to the Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Children’s Coexistence Center, which housed displaced children and orphans because of the civil war. Together with Claudia, we praise God for her ministry, “I probably wouldn’t be alive if I hadn’t been taken to the Children’s Coexistence Center…”
We ask you, God, straighten up our consciences, our love, and vocation for peace with justice, for these beautiful and generous people of El Salvador.
Mission Stewardship Moment from El Salvador:
The following is a letter that a student sent me as part of my work with the Emmanuel Baptist Church’s Pastoral Missionary School.
“Dear teacher, I thank God for the great blessing of having you among us through the Missionary Pastoral School, for the study of the Holy Word.
First, the reading of that letter from a pastor in the Pastoral Ministry module was a great blessing to us as missionaries, for he encouraged us to continue working on the holy work of which He has chosen us.
Also, secondly, the blessing is for the community we visited in Cuscatlán. That is because after analyzing how our Lord Jesus Christ and his disciples organized their work, it was the same community who proposed names of responsible persons per month to prepare the meeting place, help to prepare and serve the sacrament and other duties as the organizing for worship and the programs to be developed in the celebration.
That visit filled us with joy as missionaries, as well as them because they told me how they worked through the worship in times when we were not present since we only accompany them twice a month. Before this study of the Pastoral Missionary School, it was difficult for them to meet when we were not there.
Thank God for your teaching and your life. Thank you for being my teacher and my friend.

Te damos gracias Dios, por esta mujer encorvada del evangelio de Lucas,que nos impresiona por su fuerza de mantenerse visible por su curvatura de espalda en los espacios religiosos y sociales, y al mismo tiempo invisible por la realidad de exclusión en su Sociedad y religión, durante 18 años.
Te damos gracias por las mujeres salvadoreñas quienes han escrito gran parte de la historia de este país, invisibles muchas por las marcas que ha dejado y que aun deja la violencia en sus cuerpos, y visibles por su persistencia en su fe, participación y construcción de la paz.
Te damos gracias por los 55 años del caminar de la Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel, en cuya celebración las mujeres nos evangelizaron nuevamente con sus testimonios. Gracias por Silvia, María, Gloria, Juanita, Lidia y Claudia.
Te damos gracias por las decisiones de vida o muerte, tomadas por tu iglesia, en tiempos de guerra y posguerra. Gracias por mujeres como Claudia Arévalo, que en 1984 a 1995, llegó a la IBE y al Centro de Convivencia Infantil, que acogía niños desplazados y huérfanos a causa de la guerra civil. Juntamente con Claudia, alabamos a Dios por su ministerio, “Posiblemente no estaría viva si no me hubieran llevado al Centro de Convivencia Infantil…”.
Te pedimos Dios, endereces nuestras conciencias, nuestro amor y vocación por la paz con justicia, para con este hermoso y generoso pueblo de El Salvador.
Mission Stewardship Moment from El Salvador:
Estimada Maestra, agradezco a Dios la gran bendición de haberla enviado a nosotros a través de la Escuela Misionera Pastoral, con el estudio de la Palabra Santa.
Primeramente, la lectura de aquella carta de un pastor en el módulo de Ministerio Pastoral, fue de gran bendición para nosotros como misioneros, pues nos animó a seguir trabajando en la obra santa para la cual Él nos ha elegido.
Y en segunda, la bendición es también para la comunidad que visitamos en Cuscatlán, pues después de analizar como nuestro Señor Jesucristo y sus discípulos organizaron su trabajo, fue la misma comunidad quien propuso nombres de responsables por mes para preparar el lugar de reunión, ayudar a preparar y servir la Santa Cena y otros menesteres como la dirección del culto y hacer los programas a desarrollar en la celebración.
Esto nos llena de gozo a nosotros como misioneros, así como a ellos, pues en la semana me cuentan como estuvo el culto en el cual no estamos, ya que nosotros solo les acompañamos dos veces por mes. Antes de este estudio de la Escuela MIsionera Pastoral era difícil que se reunieran cuando no estábamos nosotros.
Gracias a Dios por su enseñanza, y su vida. Gracias por ser mi maestra y amiga.
