Prayers for Mexico

“Lord, teach us to pray,” a request that is a prayer in itself, when we humbly recognize our vital need to return to our original source, to the One who created us and loves us as a father or a mother.

Jesus taught us that prayer is the human word that responds to that divine Word that embraces us, encourages us, and confronts us. Therefore, in prayer heaven bursts on earth and God’s name is sanctified; his Kingdom comes and is among us and we ask for his will to be done.

Prayer challenges us to live the ethical dimension of the Kingdom: that in loving solidarity we share the bread that we receive daily as a gift from God; that in the practice of mercy and justice we forgive others their debts and offenses; that recognizing our weaknesses we take refuge in the one who can keep us and deliver us from evil or from doing evil to others.

“Lord, teach us to pray” because we do not want to pray from our selfishness asking for that which does not contribute to the fullness of life of the human community and of your creation.

“Lord, teach us to pray” because if you teach us we will learn from your sensitivity and it will be worthwhile to live in prayer.

“Lord, teach us to pray” so that we may enjoy your company and friendship knowing that we can bring before you our burdens and weariness.

“Lord, teach us to pray” so that we may participate in your mission in the world and collaborate in the establishment of your Kingdom of justice and peace.

Thank you for teaching us to pray with our feet on the ground and our arms stretched out towards heaven. We sanctify your name in every act of justice and mercy, we affirm the coming of your Kingdom by working for the establishment of peace, and your will is done when we give ourselves into your hands with trust and hope.

“Lord, teach us to pray.” Amen.

Mission Stewardship Moment from Mexico

The experience of prayer that our Lord taught us fills us with joy and hope to be able to pray or continue praying with the churches and seminaries in Mexico. Since we began our missionary service in this beautiful country, we have had the opportunity to participate in different days of prayer, many of them to ask and act in favor of specific groups that are in vulnerable situations or living under different types of violence.

United in prayer with the seminaries of the Theological Community of Mexico and with the churches that participate in these ecumenical spaces, we want to present the thanksgiving and petitions that have been generated and continue to be generated in these days of prayer:

We thank God for:

  • The churches and their institutions that continue to proclaim the Gospel in words, gestures, and actions of liberation.
  • For the signs of hope that are generated by social movements that work to improve the quality of life in many impoverished communities.
  • For the projects and initiatives of the churches in favor of vulnerable sectors or communities: women, children, migrants, refugees, and indigenous people.
  • For the sister churches and their ministries that accompany in prayer and with diverse resources the different educational and social projects of the seminaries and churches in Mexico.
  • For the natural wealth and cultural diversity that reminds us that the full life of the Gospel is for everyone without exclusion or discrimination.

We pray for:

  • Communities, families, and individuals who live under the threat of insecurity and violence. Mexico has some of the most dangerous cities in the world as a result of delinquency and organized crime.
  • The high level of impoverishment that many families and communities experience on a daily basis, especially in rural areas and in the settlements of large cities.
  • Socio-economic inequalities that translate into a lack of opportunities, especially on the basis of gender, territory, cultural identity, religion, and migratory status.
  • The levels of corruption present in different strata of Mexican society, generating high levels of distrust in public institutions and increasing citizen insecurity.
  • The administration of justice so that every person can have access to an impartial justice system where their fundamental rights are respected.
  • We pray with Mexico in the confidence that God hears and answers our prayers: “And I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Lk. 11:9.

Prayers for Mexico:

Señor, enséñanos a orar”, Amén.

Mission Stewardship Moment from Mexico:

Lc. 11:9.
