Prayers for Indonesia

Dear Lord, our Heavenly Father, we come before you with a grateful heart for your mercy and grace. We thank You for walking with us through the opportunities, in every place and time, and in every situation we have faced. We realize that without You, we would never live our lives as we have them now. We beg that Your mercy and grace will never fail us.
Lord our Father, by this prayer, we lift up the Christian Church in West Sulawesi (Gereja Kristen Sulawesi Barat/GKSB) and the West Sulawesi Seminary. Grant us wisdom in facing all of the social problems, poverty, and limited education of our children. We keep asking these so that the Holy Spirit would take us to be Christ’s witnesses and to be a reform agent for our members and for the people of West Sulawesi and Indonesia.

We beg for Your wisdom and guidance for this ongoing partnership between GKSB and our friends and fellows at the Global Ministries of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We seek for Your strength in shepherding our work and programs, especially for the mission development for the congregations, to improve the quality and capacity of education, to guide the children and teenagers to be our church’s future leaders, for the ministers and church leaders, and for our program to give illumination and stimulus to improve the economy of our members and the community around us.

O’ Lord, we believe that You would move every obstacle, break every fetter, and lift up our burdened heart. We beg You to be our strength and sustainer.
We pray for us, Your servants who are now carrying responsibilities in the Synod Board. Let every word we speak and every act we do reflect Your glory. Give us Your wisdom, and let us be rooted in Your word and always reflect the light of Your coming Kingdom.
In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Mission Moment from Indonesia

The Christian Church in West Sulawesi (Gereja Kristen Sulawesi Barat – GKSB) carries mission and service in the most remote areas. The service area of GKSB is mainly in the countryside and the mountain ranges. The community lives a modest life, and generally, GKSB’s members make a living as farmers. Despite the difficulties we face in our daily lives, we are grateful to God for where we are now. This situation of multiple challenges could be an opportunity and a challenge that God has given us for this church to keep moving forward and expanding in this rapidly changing world. Along with the challenge of the newest forms of information technology that have penetrated even the unyielding and unpredictable borders, the overabundance of information readily made available through the internet offers convenience, and at the same time, negatives.

To respond to such a changing and evolving situation as mentioned above, GKSB, as a church, aspires, prays, and works to be a vessel and a fortress for God’s people to get spiritual sustenance and nourishment for the souls in facing the many changes and challenges of the present times. We believe that the Lord, Jesus Christ, will always accompany us in any situation. In this matter, GKSB will always strive to determine our calling in equipping the communities through optimal service in every aspect of life. Developing the quality of education in our communities and capacity building, especially that of the young generation (children to youth) as this church’s future leaders, is the primary call of God as we understand it. Developing the quality of our ministers, including providing them with counseling and stimulus to improve our communities’ economic empowerment, is a vision and task we are keenly involved in.
GKSB alone would not have reached our present-day stature and achievements, but only because the Gospel has obligated us to never walk alone, but to always walk in the company and fellowship of sister churches within Indonesia and elsewhere. The partnership between GKSB and Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ has been a tremendous journey, and Global Ministries has been accompanying us in the mission of serving the communities here in West Sulawesi, and in always being attentive to global issues. Together, we bless, heal, and proclaim God’s nearness.
